Bio

My name is Alina Blossom Zadorozhna. I work in the technique I call Lepidography - the creation of butterfly wings from silk, shaped and sculpted into three-dimensional forms. Each work becomes both painting and sculpture: a living surface of wings that embody movement, fragility, and transformation.

Butterflies have long carried symbolic weight across cultures - as emblems of the soul, of migration, of life’s fleeting beauty. For me as an artist born in Ukraine, they also hold personal meaning: symbols of transformation, survival and renewal.

Rather than using real insects, I re-imagine their wings in silk, honoring their beauty without harm. My practice is rooted in the belief that art should preserve what it celebrates. Where others rely on destruction, I choose reconstruction - creating beauty that is both ethical and enduring.

For me each artwork is dialogue with transformation itself. The wings shift between painting and sculpture, between stillness and flight, echoing the cycles of nature and existence.

At its core, my work reflects the rhythms of life, death, and love. The fragility of the wings speaks to impermanence; their luminous colors to vitality; their arrangements to connection and renewal. I want my viewers to pause, to reflect, and to feel the quiet power of transformation - a reminder that even in times of loss, beauty and rebirth remain possible.

Through Lepidography, I seek to create not just images, but experiences: contemplative spaces where fragility becomes strength, and where art affirms that change is not an ending, but a continuation.
